Employment Office in Gdansk

Promotion of entrepreneurship is one of the best methods for effective mobilization of the unemployed. Employees of the Municipal Employment Office in Gdansk, who have helped almost 4 thousand people who remained unemployed to establish their own companies in Gdansk, are well aware of this fact.

The project “Mature Entrepreneur”, recently implemented by the Office in Gdansk and cofinanced by the ESF, was awarded second place in the Promoting the Entrepreneurial Spirit category during the prestigious European Enterprise Awards 2011 /competing with 54 projects form 27 European countries/.
The project from Gdansk, aimed at supporting entrepreneurship among people aged 50+, enabled the unemployed, pensioners, as well as professionally active people aged between 50 and 64 re-enter labour market through self-employment. People aged 50+ have significant intellectual potential and extensive experience, both practical and professional, however, employers tend to underestimate this fact – says Roland Budnik, Director of the Municipal Employment Office in Gdansk – and that is why we decided to focus on these chief assets while implementing our project. Individuals who qualified for the project were trained in business skills and were advised in the field of business. Individuals who submitted best business plans were given grants of app. PLN 50 thousand.
Gdansk branch of the Polish TV made and broadcasted a 12-episode documentary series about the project’s participants. Thanks to the project 33 new companies were established in Gdansk.
“Mature Entrepreneur” was highly rated by experts and was awarded among others the title of “The Best 2010 Investment in a Human Being” in a competition organized by the Ministry of Regional Development, and 1st prize in the competition European Enterprise Awards organized by the Polish Minister of Economy.
Municipal Employment Office in Gdansk belongs to the narrow circle of top employment offices in Poland and was the first one in Poland to be granted the quality management certificate ISO 9001-2000, as well as the only one which introduced the possibility of online registration; it also has many interesting projects e.g. “Solidarity with the Shipyard”, “Small Business Day in Pomerania Region”, “Video CV”, “Real Educational Bargain”, “Training Course Vouchers”, or “Support for the Actively Seeking Employment” on its scorecard. Wide range of offers and professional personnel make the Office from Gdansk really trustworthy. And the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy took advantage of this fact and entrusted the Municipal Employment Office in Gdansk with implementation of the first in Poland, experimental pilot project “New Horizons” which is aimed at promoting a model of cooperation between employment offices and private employment agencies (the project is supposed to end in 2012).
